A POPULAR Wyre Forest club is hoping to bring a splash of colour to its 50th anniversary celebrations this weekend to boost a children's charity coffers.

Stourport Floral Arts Club, which has 60 members, is filling the town's Methodist Church with a variety of flowers on Saturday and Sunday to mark its golden jubilee.

All money raised will be handed over to the Acorns Children's Hospice charity, which cares for children with life-limiting illnesses and offers support to their families.

The floral delights on show at the event have been paid for by people and businesses in Stourport through a sponsorship scheme.

Doors are open to the Parkes Passage church on Saturday and Sunday, between 10am and 5pm. Members will be on hand to answer any questions about the display.

Club secretary, Marguerite Stokes, who has been involved with the group for 15 years, said it was always on the look-out for new members.

The 70-year-old added: "Everyone is really looking forward to the weekend and we hope it all goes well because it has taken quite a bit of organising.

"It is a very friendly club and we have done well to keep it going all these years because a lot of other clubs have struggled to find committee members and have had to close, which is a shame.

"We have been helping Acorns all year. They do a great job and it is a really good cause. We want to raise as much as we can.

"People in the town have already supported the event through sponsoring flowers."

For more information about the group, which meets on the last Monday of each month at Stourport Social Day Centre, in New Street, or anyone interested in joining can call Mrs Stokes on 01299 823727.
