FOLLOWING Tuesday night's 5-3 friendly defeat at Alvechurch, Evesham manager Paul West will be hoping for an improved showing when Worcester City visit Common Road tomorrow, writes Mervyn Collins.
West is planning to put out a strong side - perhaps a mix of the two different line-ups that have featured in two games already this week.
West and assistant Neil Hunt have the dubious task of whittling down a 30-strong pool of players down to around 18 ahead of the start of the British Gas Business Southern League Division One Midlands campaign at Rothwell Town on Saturday, August 19.
Prior to that, the Robins face friendly action against Stratford Town, at Studley, next Thursday night ahead of a trip to another Midland Alliance outfit, Boldmere St Michaels, on Saturday, July 29.
Redditch are the visitors to Common Road four days later for a 7.45pm start with the final warm-up, and last first team match at the ground, against Pershore Town on Saturday, August 12.
Connection
United officials are inviting any former players or any one with a connection with either club to come along to the game. Ring the club on 01386 442303 and make yourself known.
There are lots of players who have worn the shirts of both clubs and, it would be a fitting conclusion to life at Common Road, if those people turned up on the day.
West will be hoping to have a full strength squad available and praying that none of his players injure themselves in a challenge cricket match at Avon Street on Thursday, August 10.
It's anyone's guess who will be swapping the red and white stripes for white shirts and flannels but the manager is anticipating an enjoyable evening while also looking forward to the rematch on the football field later this year.
