KIDDERMINSTER singer and dancer, Kathryn Knight, hit the right note with judges to win a Midlands-wide competition that gave her the chance to show her talent.

The 21-year-old earned £1,000 as she carried off the Tamworth Arts Club Musical Theatre title, contested by 38 people aged between 15 and 25.

Kathryn, a member of both the Carpet Trades Operatic Society and Kidderminster and District Operative and Dramatic Society, sang Cabaret, from the show of the same name and I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables to clinch her victory.

It was second time lucky for Kathryn in the biannual competition, as she had come third in 2004, winning £150.

She has been singing since she was six and will be performing in Carpet Trades' next production, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, at Stourport Civic Centre in October.

Kathryn will also jointly choreograph the show with Wendy Richards.
