AFTER the story about David Little's concerns for the people of Stourport over the redevelopment of the old Carpets Of Worth site in Stourport (Shuttle/Times & News, July 6), I thought I would write and tell you what it has been like to live down here while the site has been dormant.
We have little or no impact on ANY of the developments that have been planned for the Mitton area.
We were ignored when we raised issues on the old Larch Lap site being redeveloped after all the residents of Lichfield Street were against it.
It is already an area of high crime but the council seems intent on packing in more and more houses into an already overdeveloped area.
Yet we had no support from the Civic Society which should have been against such a plan as it brings nothing to the town other than a bunch of expensive houses.
It does nothing for tourists which is the town's biggest asset and will be nothing but houses stood next to a stagnant pond.
I, for one, would like to see Stourport's people have the last say in what happens to the area. But I fear once again we will be ignored.
David Little seems to be the first to actually speak out against such a development.
He said it was important that Stourport people are asked before it goes too far down the line.
People voiced their opinions over the basin regeneration and it had NO effect at all as the council totally ignored our viable points. These included traffic and lack of police support.
We complain to councillors at PACT meetings yet they seem happier to waste money on other things such as £22,000 on the memorial park gates.
It seems they are only interested in building more and more houses to gain more council tax.
We already pay 121 per cent more in council tax compared with 13 years ago and we don't even have a 24-hour manned police station any more - so just where is our money going ?
Stephen Clee (district council leader0 said the people of Stourport will be able to give their views and comments.
Well, we protested against the Larch Lap development but it got us nowhere. We never even had any council members visit us during the local elections, yet they say they know what's happening in our area.
There are people here that have lived in Stourport all their lives and know what they are talking about but tend to just stand back and get walked over.
I know one long-term resident who is talking about leaving the area because of the lack of support.
