FUNDRAISING pensioners in Bromsgrove are a step nearer to getting a new purpose-built dance floor thanks to a £350 donation.
Waltzes at Bromsgrove District Housing Trust's Lowes Court, in Elm Grove, are a little squeezed due to the lack of a purpose-built dance floor.
But to help put residents in a spin, Mansell, one of the UK's leading construction companies, has donated cash towards the dance fund.
Residents at Lowes Court are trying to raise more cash by knitting, raffling and playing bingo to raise the £1,000 total needed for their dance floor.
Resident Alan Crowther, aged 67, said: "I've lived here for six years and we've always wanted a dance floor. It means we can have a bit of a do and I can rock and roll again with my lady friends."
Mansell has given a further £700 to two other sheltered housing schemes to celebrate the completion of its 1,000th BDHT kitchen and bathroom. The other schemes wish to splash the cash on new plants and a bingo machine.
Mansell is one of two construction companies employed by BDHT to deliver £49million worth of improvements to tenants' homes.
Mark Dainter, of BDHT, said: "Our contract with Mansell is set to end soon and we are very pleased with its gesture to donate money to three sheltered housing schemes. We are sure the money will be put to good use.
"This is an excellent example of a community focussed business reinvesting some of its profits for the benefit of the community it serves," added Mark.
Anyone who can help the dance floor appeal, such as by donating a raffle prize or buying a ticket, should contact support officer Sue Clark on 07921604748.
