HAGLEY'S play area, which has had a £100,000 makeover, has been officially opened

Funds for the work were met by Bromsgrove District Council and Hagley Parish Council. The new play area, which was opened last Saturday, includes wider access for pushchairs and wheelchairs, picnic tables and additional benches, along with a wider range of equipment for children from three to 14.

Further tree planting and seating will be provided later in the year in order to finish off the landscaping.

Steve Colella, the chairman of Hagley Parish Council, said: "The new play equipment has modernised the play area and will benefit the village as a whole. It is important that these facilities match the needs of the community and represents some welcome news for all concerned.

"I would like to congratulate the parish councillors for their commitment to the project and to Bromsgrove District Council for its support. It is a fantastic achievement and something we should be proud of. I hope that everyone takes advantage of the scheme and enjoys it all year round and for many years to come."

Steve said the official opening represented the end of 18 months of planning and hard work to ensure that the play area was completed and ready in time.

He added: "Many people have given their time freely to ensure that this project is a success. We have had tremendous support from Bromsgrove District Council's culture and community services without whose help we would not have this splendid facility.

"I am particularly pleased that we can open the play area at the same time as Hagley village fete. The two events show what can be achieved in a community and will be a lasting legacy in the community."
