THE WI ladies paid an educational visit to Royal Worcester Porcelain. They gathered for coffee in very pleasant weather, so this was enjoyed outside before meeting up with our tour guide. After introductions we were taken first to the painting studio, as it was nearly lunchtime when the artists would have a break.
Our guide told us about the many stages and numerous firings that the hand painted pieces pass through. Members were pleased to hear that production of the special pieces is still carried out at the Worcester plant and we were interested to know that one artist produced a piece from start to finish - there is no line involved. The resulting splendid plates and vases are worth thousands of pounds and there is a order waiting list. Some customers have a favourite artist, but we thought all the pieces were exquisite. Next, after a short film, we went through the various stages of manufacture of porcelain and bone china, which made it all very clear.
Our next meeting will be on August 2 in the president's garden.
