MAUREEN Smith opened the June meeting. She introduced Dorothy Radford, from Blackwell and Burcot WI, who gave a detailed account of the AGM held in Cardiff.
Members were then given details of the forthcoming visit to Denman College.
The speaker for the evening was George Hook who gave a highly entertaining and interesting talk on his family's mother of pearl button company.
He showed members the large shells he obtained from north west Australia and explained the manufacture of buttons from the shells. He circulated cards of fancy buttons ordered by the fashion trade, together with buckles, hair slides, spoons, hand carved handles and items of jewellery. The table arrangement was won by Jenny Eddins and several members won raffle prizes.
