CYCLING CLUB - There are two rides this Sunday. The A ride starts at 9am and has a surprise destination. The B ride starts at 9.30am and visits Evesham. Both rides leave from The Green, Blakebrook, opposite Kidderminster Hospital. All cyclists will be welcome and should bring a packed lunch.

FRANCHE LADIES - At the next meeting on Wednesday, August 9, Carol Evans will give a talk on guide dogs for the blind.

FRANCHE WI - At the July meeting, members were given a talk with slides on Japan by Fiona Lucas. The competition for a fan was won by the president M Lillis. The autumn council meeting will be at South Bromsgrove High School on October 24 at 7pm. Names will be needed next month for agendas.

The August meeting will be a quiz night hosted by Terry and Jill Jackson and there will be a bring and buy sale. The venue is Franche Church Hall on August 1 at 7.30pm. Visitors welcome.

POLISH EX-SERVICEMEN'S CLUB - On June 24 Mrs G Szczpanik organised a buffet and social evening, where £885 was raised for cancer charities. Thanks were expressed to those who helped.

The Polish Standard was taken to St Mary's Parish Church on Mayor's Sunday, June 25. Chairwoman, Mrs M Lee and members, also took part on this occasion.

Among future events at headquarters will be a harvest dance on September 16. New members will be welcome.

PHOENIX CLUB - At the June meeting Christine Ritchie gave the final part of her account of being companion to a Saudi princess when she told members about details of a Saudi royal wedding which she attended.

A coach outing to Oxford replaced the usual lunch meeting on July 4.

PROBUS CLUB - On June 21, beekeeper Mike Jones from Astley spoke to members. Mike has 15 hives spread around Worcestershire and gave in great detail the lives of the worker honeybee which in summer lives only six to eight weeks from the time she hatches as an adult bee. He went on to show the equipment used in removing the honey from the hives right through to the actual bottling of the product.

HABBERLEY WI - After the business, which included a report on the AGm from the Foley Park delegate, members had a summer supper of ham salad and strawberries and cream.

The speaker Richard Westcott gave a talk entitled "confessions of a pantomime dame".

He showed members how to apply make-up and change into several outfits. The talk concluded with members singing with Mr Westcott.

The next meeting is on Thursday, August 3 when the speaker will be Ray Sturdy.
