THE 40th annual Bromsgrove College sports day was held. The chief organiser of the event was Sgt Instructor W Bryan. Among the winners were S Tustin, who came first in the long jump and throwing the cricket ball competitions, W Lyne, who won the 120 yards flat race, and FMI Buxton, who won the 440 yards flat race. Prizes were given out by Mrs Paterson, the wife of the vicar of Bromsgrove. The day also saw music from the Bromsgrove Town Band, conducted by Mr J Webley.

THE annual meeting of Bromsgrove Young Men's Social Club was held. Dr Coaker chaired the meeting. The secretary's report showed a successful year, with the total membership being at 70. The principal item in the report was the purchase of a new premises in the Strand for the sum of £500. It was announced that the property would need some alterations before the club could use it, so 31 members offered to give up their evenings to do the work.

BROMSGROVE Cricket Club lost to Redditch after a weak batting display. Bryant, Pratt and Perkins made 60 of Bromsgrove's total of 73 between them. However, Bromsgrove's bowlers hit back, reducing Redditch to 12 for two early on. But Redditch passed Bromsgrove's total without losing another wicket.

CHILDREN attending All Saints Sunday School had their annual treat. They met for a short service at the church, followed by a procession led by the town band, marching down Birmingham Road, The Strand, Stourbridge Road and Victoria Road. Games were then held in the field at Barnsley Hall before the gathering sat down for a tea.

MISS Gertrude Scoffham, of Bromsgrove, was awarded a national book prize in the National Competition of Schools, recognised for pupils of evening schools, technical institutions, schools of art and art classes.
