SIR - Bill Davison (July 10) clearly doesn't listen to what is said on the future of Christopher Whitehead school. Let me make it quite clear, it is not my claim that it will cost £10m more to build a new school on the current site compared to a new one, it is the county council's.
It is that same county council which told me, in no uncertain terms, that rebuilding on the current site is not an option they support.
Given it is the county council that will ultimately plan for, budget for and oversee any new build, Bill Davison should at least listen to them. I have no political cause to support them, the county council is run by the Conservatives, but I do listen to the arguments they put forward. I am yet to hear of an alternative figure to the £10m that very senior councillors (Conservative) and officers have stated would be an additional cost to the council tax payer.
The issue of transport and traffic management is a serious one that the council must get right before any plan can be fully endorsed. This is also true of traffic management issues that will arise if the Sainsbury's supermarket is opened next to the school.
Where Bill and I probably agree, especially after his premature celebrations, is that the whole episode should be in the public domain - plans, costings, advantages and downsides so that the whole community in Worcester can see what will best serve them.
MIKE FOSTER,
Worcester MP.
