THE Shindig and Gymkhana held on the common last Saturday was a huge success and raised £2,500 for Riding for the Disabled, which is a great boost to this worthy cause.
We, the Common Association committee, would like to thank all the people who gave sponsorship or raffle prizes to the event and all the local people who helped - far too many to thank individually, but it made a real local occasion.
The day started at 2pm with the gymkhana run by Mary Weaver, then the dog show with judge Gordon Young. Next came children's races, followed by clear-round show jumping organised expertly by Sue Satchell.
This led into the evening's activities, starting with horse time-trialling at 6pm with Tim and Angie Stephenson. Then came the bale-rolling, skittles, pig-roast, live music and raffle, in fact a full day of fun from 2pm until after 11pm.
A big thank you also to all the people who came and supported our efforts.
