The fete committee wish to thank all the people who helped at this year's event, together with those who came and supported it. The fete made in excess of £1,100, which makes it the most successful for quite a few years.

Saturday and Sunday, July 22-23, sees the patronal festival of St James with activities centred around the church in Welland, culminating in a service in the evening followed by a barbecue and refreshments. Details for this event from Mary Purser, 310289.

Also on July 23, the car boot sale starts at noon. As usual, cars £5, vans/trailers £7. It is in aid of the Friends of Welland, who are trying to raise funds for a lychegate at Welland Cemetery, Marlbank Road.

They have successfully raised funds for the refurbishment of Welland Primary School's bell and the vehicle-activated speed sign on Gloucester Road within the village. They are not only in need of some 'new blood' to come and join them, but also some donated cakes for the car-boot (eggs can be supplied, please phone Mary on 592303 for further details).

Lastly, a mention for the welcome return of the annual Welland Steam Fair, with all the usual stalls and activities going on. This is just opposite Danemore Crossroads on the weekend of July 29/30.
