A COLWALL woman who broke her back in a quad-bike accident three years ago is helping to raise money for a new spinal injuries bed.

Charlotte Powell spent six weeks at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital following her accident in 2003 and wants to help fund a second spinal injuries bed there.

A cheese and wine supper, with raffles and tombola, will be held today (Friday) at Brook House, Colwall, from 7pm to 9pm.

"Charlotte used the spinal bed at Gloucestershire hospital after her accident. We wanted to support the nurses who have begun raising money for another one," said her mother Maggie Powell.

Charlotte, who was told she might never walk again after her accident, made a full recovery and was out of hospital in just six months. She has already been involved in fundraising for the Rockwood Rehabilitation Unit at Cardiff Hospital, where she spent five months recovering from her injuries after leaving Gloucester.

Mrs Powell said she and her daughter had been amazed at the level of support for the fundraising.

"People and businesses in Malvern have been so supportive, even though the fundraising is for a hospital in Gloucester," she said.

Tickets are £7.50 from Mrs Powell on 01684 540604.
