MALVERN Table Tennis League secretary Cicely Palmer has retired after holding the post for 21 years.

At the annual general meeting of the Brewin Dolphin Securities-sponsored league, attended by more than 30 people, Cicely reviewed her time as secretary and thanked the whole table tennis community for their support, but in particular her husband James.

She then reported on the passing of three well-known league players. One of them, Pete Harrold, had made a donation to the league which the committee decided should be used to inaugurate a new competition last season.

Manor Park Cavaliers won the first division for a third successive year and over all three divisions only one match was not played.

The league's A team, in the county inter-league competition, had come first with five wins. The league also had the top player in the county juniors and the top two girls in the county cadets.

The treasurer reported that the league's finances remain in a satisfactory situation and thanked all those who had sponsored the league and annual tournament but particularly, Brewin Dolphin Securities, who have again agreed to be main sponsors for the coming season.

The tournament secretary reported on a healthy increase in the entries for the annual tournament in the Winter Gardens on February 25.

The president paid a special tribute to Cicely Palmer's service to the league as secretary and announced that the committee would be arranging a gift in appreciation.

Richard Cullis was elected as the new secretary. Anyone who would like to enter a team next season is asked to contact him on 01905 426442. The closing date for entries is July 30.
