THE Grannies' Cup at the Worcestershire Golf Club was won again this year by Joss Penryn narrowly beating a new granny, Margaret Duncan.
On lady captain's day, Faith Tubb won the Captain's Salver and division three. Jennifer Bunyan won division two and Ruth Scott division one. Diane Meakin won the gross prize.
The Veteran's Cup was won by Pat Rose, second Kate Foster and third Jane Quick. The Novices Cup was won by Margaret Duncan and a Stableford event held on the same day won by Juliet Digweed.
The Worcestershire Ladies' Scratch League season reached its completion with their final fixture away at Mickleover.
Sadly it ended with a 4-1 loss leaving them with six out of a maximum eight points. This will secure their position in division five of the Inter County Ladies' Scratch League having gained promotion from division six at the end of 2005.
Wins were recorded at home to Kenilworth 3-2 and Handsworth 4 1/2-1/2 and away at Sutton Coldfield 3 1/2-1 1/2. Mickleover still have three games to play so final positions in the division will not be established until the end of September. Scratch league members this year have included Cath Francis, Cathy Francis, Diane Meakin (team captain), Ursula Pearson, Sally Dare, Mary Horrobin, Chris Urry and Pauline Belsham.
The annual ladies' betterball event was very well attended with some excellent golf on display.
Jane Freeman and Kathy Reid from Redditch GC took the overall prize with 43 Stableford points, just pipping home players Cathy Harris and Kate Anderson on 42 points. Cathy and Kate were also in contention for the gross prize with 31 gross points, which went eventually to Sue Pursall and Judy Thomas from Cotswold HIlls GC, with 32 points.
Consistent home player, Mary Horrobin, partnered Jenny Bishop of Bransford GC to the third nett position with 40 points, beating Janet Clowrey and Bernadette Howe on the back nine. Also on 40 points and taking the fifth prize were home players Pat Longley and Liz Evans.
The midweek medal was won in division one by Paul Yorke with a net 68 from Matt Pugh on 69 and Neal Gordon 70. Division two was won by Barry Davies with a net 71 from Mike Salmon on 73 and Phil Berry on 74.
The EW Evans Centenary Cup Stableford round two was won in division one by Nigel Collins with 39 points on count-back from Stuart Bird. Division two by Mark Wright with 41 points and division three by Martin Teale with 42.
The De Vere Trophies, Betterball format, was won with a tremendous score of 47 points by Pete Lupino and Wes Curtis. Ian Belsham and James Rose were runners-up and the gross prize went to Andy and Jamie Dunster.
