WHILST the scores don't suggest it, this was a cracking game of cricket played with real desire to win on both sides.
COLWALL v WORCESTER DOMINIES
Dominies won the toss and chose to bat on a wicket that looked like it would turn. Darren Cooke struck in his first over taking the wicket of Hussain, caught brilliantly by Butler at mid-on.
Spinner Charlie Griffiths took the new ball and rose to the challenge bagging 4-33 off 17 overs, a tremendous effort following the Malvern College leavers' ball.
Damian Berry produced a fine spell of swing bowling and took 1-21 off seven overs and Mike King chipped in with 2-4 off four overs.
The vital wicket of J Williams was taken by a run-out involving the ball passing through at least four members of the Colwall team.
Colwall finally bowling Dominies out for 86 off 33 overs
In reply, Colwall were under pressure from Matt Williams Dominies side right from the off, Wolfendale caught for four and Fortnum falling for nought off the bowling of Ali.
Nick Panniers (17) and Gareth Bakewell (14) steadied the ship before they both fell. Luke Ledbury (15) and Pete Butler shared a partnership of 20 with Ledbury very much the dominant partner.
Eventually Griffiths and King saw Colwall home as they reached 90-7 off 23 overs.
WORCESTER DOMINIES II v COLWALL II
COLWALL seconds had their best WCL division three south game of the season away at Worcester Dominies and managed to clinch a tight victory.
Having asked the home team to bat first, Colwall made a good start with King catching Ingram off Alleyne for four and after a few lusty blows from Loynes, Elsden bowled him for 12.
However, a partnership of 99 between Wilkes (56) and Clements (50) held up the vistors. Coleman broke the stand when Clements drove to Sheppard at extra cover.
Wickets fell at regular intervals but runs continued and a total of 226-9 looked about a par score on a pitch with a small and quick outfield. Tom Coleman was again the pick of the bowlers with 4-47 off ten overs.
Colwall lost the early wicket of Taylor for five but a decent partnership was developing between Chapple (21) and Sheppard (17) until Chapple was bowled by a delivery that kept low. Sheppard followed him back two overs later offering a caught and bowled to Humphreys to leave the away side struggling at 65-3.
Another partnership formed between Shouler (46) and Alleyne (25) and another between Shouler and Hankins (27). Wheeler battled hard for his 12 and Elsden hit a few lusty blows but when the last pair of Crichard and Coleman come together, 18 were still required.
A few good shots and several wides took the Colwall side home to an unlikely victory.
