WORCESTER Nomads 1st XI entertained Kidderminster Victoria at Bransford in the WCL division two.

Dannie Rees, the stand-in Nomads captain, was asked to bat first. Malcolm Jones was out in the fourth over, but fine batting from Simon Jones and Liam O'Driscoll got Nomads off to a good start. O'Driscoll was out for 37 to a magnificent catch by Manley off the bowling of Singh with the score on 87. This brought in Steve Bowman, who batted well for his 38 including a huge straight six.

Harris continued in style, eventually out for a fine 111. Nomads ended their innings on 258-8.

The Kidderminster innings started in similar fashion with Dominic Harris removing Kimberlin in the third over. Kidderminster never really looked like getting the runs required and their inning petered out to an uninteresting 169-6 with Amos top scoring with 32.

NOMADS second XI travelled to Stone to play Kidderminster Victoria, who having put on an opening stand of 111, must have been confident of setting a challenging target.

Opening bowlers Ormerod and Butterworth had little luck, and that appeared to be continuing as John Goodreds' first over disappeared for 16. But he refused to be battered into submission and with Nick Lloyd at the other end, the game was turned on its head. Goodreds took the first three wickets, all victims for keeper Jack Brain, and the floodgates opened. Just 38 runs later, Kidder-minster had been dismissed, with Goodreds having returned an astonishing 8-38, seven of his victims falling to catches. Nick Lloyd took 2-39.

Nomads' reply was not confident, but skipper Andy Leach (73no) and youngster Josh Stafford (39no) rode their luck, but mixing this with aggressive stroke play, the two saw Nomads home by eight wickets.

NOMADS thirds travelled to the Lenches for this division seven clash.

Nomads asked The Lenches to bat on an unusual-looking wicket. They soon lost Alex Reading to a catch by Anton Madzarevic but fellow opener Dave Selvey raced to 60 made from 97 in 18 overs before falling victim to left-arm seamer Richard Lewis.

Except for B Williams with 37 none of the other Lenches batsman stayed long and they were all out for 171 in only 32.5 overs with Richard Lewis ending with 5-62.

In reply, Nomads lost a wicket in the first over but then Anton Madzarevic (49) and Alan Mason (27) put on 68 before the uneven bounce did for the latter. Thereafter some of the Nomads batsmen looked likely to secure victory before a succession of rash strokes saw Nomads all out 12 runs short with 15 overs left.

A LATE re-arrangement found the Nomads Sunday first XI hosting a Warwick University Staff XI.

The away team elected to bat posting 167-8 with Oli Butterworth (3-23) and Tom Longley (2-34).

The Nomads batsmen made a complete hash of things and were reeling at 58-7. Defeat looked the likely event, but Tom Longley (61no) and Tom Marsh (22), Nomads won by one run with two balls to spare.

NOMADS Sunday second XI travelled to Stanway and elected to bat.

Nomads made a respectable 201-7 with 15-year-old Sam Roberts (100no) getting his maiden century at any level. Bill Beazley (58), also helped turn things around.

In reply, a good knock by A Mitchell (56no) and A Johns (35) started to push the score along. Dave Ash removed Johns and at 102-2 after 20 overs the game was well poised when the heavens opened and a freak storm completely flooded the ground.
