MATHON, Cradley and Storridge Tennis Club mixed A team has had an encouraging first-half to the summer league season during which they have played three of their six scheduled matches.

The first fixture was away to Evesham and this proved to be an extremely close fought encounter with the result of all rubbers being in the balance until the very end with Evesham running out narrow 3-1 winners.

The second match was at home to Hallow and this time MCS managed to reverse the previous score and emerged reasonably comfortable 3-1 winners.

The third fixture was away at Bromsgrove, a team that MCS has not enjoyed a lot of success against in recent years.

The first two rubbers proved to be close with both teams struggling to gain the early advantage but at the half-way mark the teams were level at 1-1.

MCS came out strongly for the reverse rubbers and quickly took the first set in each. The second sets proved to be tougher but determined play by all four players ensured that the team went away with a 3-1 win.

The following have played for the team so far this season: Carol Dandy, Ursula Mason, Duncan Hannaford and Chris Brandon-white.

The squad is looking forward to the second half of the season and more tough matches.
