THE problem of providing much-needed public conveniences at the Wyche had come a step nearer to a solution, the Gazette reported 50 years ago.
The matter was raised by Colwall Parish Council, which had written to both Malvern Urban District Council and Ledbury Rural Council urging them to take action.
The upshot was that the Malvern and Ledbury councils got together and proposed a scheme in which Ledbury would pay for the toilets, with Malvern helping out with the running costs.
At the same parish council meeting, members discussed traffic problems outside the Schweppes Malvern water bottling plant, dangerous trees and unsightly undergrowth near the railway line and a street light that had been knocked down by an unseen vehicle.
A quote of £33 15s was given for re-erecting the lamp standard.
