Hundreds of Malvernians and a good many visitors have this week availed themselves of the opportunity of viewing Mr Herbert Schmaltz's famous painting The Return from Calvary, now on view at Messrs Hermitage's music warehouse, Church Street. By every competent critic, this picture has been pronounced Mr Schmaltz's greatest work, and worthy to rank among the finest specimens of religious art and pictorial design. Malvern News, July 14, 1906.
THE inhabitants of Ledbury were alarmed soon after midnight on Wednesday by the ringing of the fire bell. The warehouses to the rear of the pork butcher shop of Mr E Allen were ablaze, and premises on either side in Homend Street were in danger. Previous to leaving the fire station, Cpt Hopkins despatched Fireman W Pitt with the valve key to Conigree, to change the pressure of the water from low to high. Meanwhile, the Brigade had attached the hose to the Bank Crescent hydrant, but the pressure was not enough to force the water through the hose. Ledbury Free Press, July 17, 1906.

Fine weather, a full programme and splendid support from the public ensured the success of the increasingly popular RRE annual athletic sports and carnival at the Sports Ground, Malvern Link, on Saturday. Beside the track and field events, there was a fancy-dress parade for adults, children and vehicles and a flower show. Added attractions during intervals in the sports were a physical training display by No 1 TRRE, by permission of the commanding officer, and a counter marching display by Worcester Sea Cadets. Malvern Gazette, July 13, 1956.
A COMPLIMENT to the efficiency of the Ledbury Fire Brigade was paid in a chance conversation recently. A member of our staff, enjoying a quiet cup of tea, overheard two officials of the Hereford Fire Service discussing the Ledbury Brigade. It seems that our local Brigade is held in high regards, for being the fastest in Herefordshire for turning out. Ledbury Reporter, July 20, 1956.

Residents in Tanhouse Lane, Leigh Sinton, are looking for someone to unravel the knotty problem which has tied up any possible action on Whippets Brook. About once a year, the swollen brook overflows its banks and pours into nearby houses - sometimes to a depth of a foot - but no-one will do anything about it. At the heart of the problem lies a culvert built in about 1965 to carry a private drive. It is too narrow to cope with the brook in full spate. Malvern Gazette, July 16, 1981.
THE show jumping build-up to the Three Counties began at the Ledbury Hunt Show jumping festival, with capacity entries in some classes. The BSJA affiliated show was the first of its kind organised by the Ledbury Hunt Supporters' Club. The show was held at Pigeon House Farm, Eldersfield, and was blessed with sunshine. Ledbury Reporter, June 18, 1981.
