THE Worcestershire Cricket Board's annual award of the Bill Jones Trophy for voluntary service to cricket in Worcestershire, has gone to Dr Bob Shaw, the secretary of Evesham.
There were six nominees for the award and, at a ceremony at the County Ground at New Road, Bob was presented with the trophy by Mrs Sheila Jones, widow of Bill Jones.
Bill Jones, who died two years ago, was an outstanding voluntary servant of Worcestershire club cricket.
His achievements included administering the Worcestershire Cricket Association, setting up the Worcestershire Association of Groundsman and a lifetime service to clubs including Worcester Nomads, among many other contributions to the game.
This year's award was in recognition of the Evesham official's achievement in building the Worcestershire Cricket Centre county indoor school in Evesham and his role in turning around the fortunes of the Birmingham Premier League over the past five years.
Along with other county winners of voluntary awards, Bob has been invited to the "OSCAS" lunch at Lord's in October.
