MEMBERS of the Evesham club enjoyed a great day's sport on Sunday when competing for the Des Dixon Trophy.

The weather conditions were ideal for most competitors although some of the gusts that came upstream over the weir gave both the sailors and spectators some heartstopping moments.

Capsizes abounded in the early rounds of the knockout event and made for some interesting results.

With all the competition being sailed in Mirrors, this was a great leveller and, as the rounds progressed, a few of the favo-urites were knocked out.

Jeremy Higson provided the onlookers with a great display of "on the edge" sailing making most use of the conditions over the short course.

Peter Green also made good use of the wind to get through to the final that produced a head-to-head tussle and an intense tactical battle.

It was only on the last lap after rounding the last buoy that Green managed to make a break that allowed him the slightest gap and enabled him to tack first and clear the line and take top honours.
