IT was interesting to see that in order to announce plans for four very welcome new district council ball courts for local youngsters (Shuttle/Times & News, July 6) Tory cabinet member Nathan Desmond chose to be photographed basking in the reflected glory of Borrington Park.
However, Borrington Park was not a district council project. It was, in fact, organised by local residents themselves working together through their very own Offmore and Comberton Action Group.
As well as the ball court it actually includes a skate park, teen shelter, meeting area, under 14s play area, dog walking area and extensive landscaping. The BMX track should be completed soon and we look forward to further developments.
The major partners were Wyre Forest Community Housing, who were totally amazing and brilliant throughout, and the Office of The Deputy Prime Minister through a Living Spaces grant.
Kidderminster Youth Trust and the Wyre Forest Community Safety Partnership were also among those who generously backed the £200,000 project.
We are, of course, grateful to Wyre Forest District Council for meeting 10 per cent of the costs.
I am sure that, in due course, Councillor Desmond will actually generate equally successful schemes.
