A PROPOSAL to add a new glazed two-storey extension to a former mill in Kidderminster has been given the thumbs up by planning chiefs.
Members of Wyre Forest District Council's planning committee approved the plan to transform Slingfield Mill, also known as De Bradelei Mill, in Weavers Wharf, on Tuesday.
The proposed extension on the Market Square side of the building was made by applicant, Highstone Estates, and will include an escalator to the first floor.
In a report before the meeting, the council's conservation officer said the proposals "will be of great benefit to the listed building, through enabling greater and clearer access to the retail unit within the building."
It was also deemed compatible with the contrasting style of the former carpet mill, by revealing more of the original building and thought to "improve its long-term viability and, hopefully, the retail offer of the town centre."
Pavers Shoes stepped in to save the De Bradelei Mill building after the discount designer clothing and homeware business went into receivership.
The company took over the lease in January. Leading Labels, a national retailer of discount designer clothing, also came on board.
