STOURPORT residents, traders and visitors have the chance to voice their opinions on plans to give the town a new look as part of its ongoing facelift work.

Wyre Forest District Council and regeneration group, Stourport Forward, want people to submit their views on the draft Stourport Pride report.

The brief will cover everything from the design of bins, seats, improving signposts, preferred materials for street surfaces, planting and creative lighting.

Leader of the council, Stephen Clee, whose responsibilities include regeneration, said: "We want to move away from designs that could be seen anywhere to create places that are rich in character and experiences. We are looking to establish spaces that are unique."

Specialist landscape design company, Taylor Young, has drawn up the ideas after working with groups including the Stourport Town Council and Worcestershire County Council's highways department.

The report will be used as a guide for new developments and future work on existing areas, such as Bridge Street and the Riverside Meadows.

Derek Fradgley, Stourport Forward chairman, said: "We urge people to come along to the roadshows so they can also be proud of being involved in the development process as well as the eventual result."

Stourport High School will host a roadshow event from Monday until Friday, July 21.

The town's Civic Hall is holding a similar event on Monday, between 2pm and 8pm, and Stourport Library will house a mini exhibition from July 31 until August 24.

Members of Stourport Forward and council officers will also be on hand to answer questions at Areley Kings Community Centre on July 27, from 6pm to 8pm, and Lickhill Community Centre on August 3, between 5.30pm and 7.30pm.

The draft report can be viewed from Monday at the council's Duke House office, in Kidderminster, Stourport Civic Centre and the town's Worcester Street library.

Anyone wanting to comment on the plans, which are also available at www.wyrefo

restdc.gov.uk, needs to complete a response form and submit it no later than Friday, August 25.
