VALE residents with a penchant for adventure are being warned to stay safe this summer with a list of instructions when heading outdoors.
Hereford and Worcester Fire Service have drawn up some points so that caravan users, those camping out and people using open fires can enjoy themselves without risk.
Caravan enthusiasts have been told to check the vehicles smoke alarm weekly, keep gas cylinders outside, to turn off appliances if a gas leak is suspected and not to leave children alone in the caravan.
Alternatively, before heading out camping the message is to never use candles in or near a tent as torches are much safer.
As with caravans, flammable liquids and cylinders should be kept outside the tent, oil burning appliances are not recommended and cooking appliances should be kept away from walls and the roof, where they can be easily knocked over.
When starting an open fire, it should be downwind and at least 10m from a tent. It should never be left unattended and should always be extinguished fully after use.
If the worst happens and a fire does break out then the fire service should be called immediately.
Chris Blake, Community Safety Manager for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "It may all sound a bit daunting but it needn't be, most of the advice is common sense."
