BIDFORD'S district and county councillor is backing a move by Stratford District Council to try and save water.

The district council has introduced regulations for new homes and extensions in the area which will require a water butt and an attachment on the down pipe to conserve more water.

The butt will enable rainwater to be collected which can then be used on the garden. The attachment will allow any excess water to continue down the drain. It is believed this will save 91 million litres of water per year.

Cllr Peter Barnes said: "This is an innovative idea suggested by Stratford District Council that conserves the amount of water a household uses, which I fully support. Through the introduction of a water butt in new homes it means there will be less water wastage."

You can currently buy an attachment for £6.99 at Stratford Garden Centre. For more details, contact Mr Barnes on 01789 750837.
