PERSHORE MP Sir Michael Spicer has spoken of his sadness at news Garners food factory is switching production to Poland.
The decision by Baxters Food Group means most of the stunned 23 staff face redundancy.
Sir Michael said: "I was extremely sad to hear of the proposed relocation of Garners Foods from it's present location on the Racecourse Road trading estate in Pershore to Poland.
"I understand this is to save the transportation costs of pickled onions from Poland.
"It seems especially strange that the onions cannot be grown and pickled in the Vale of Evesham, renowned worldwide for the high quality of its horticulture.
"My task now is to ensure that all those concerned receive the redundancy benefits that are due to them.
"If anyone has a problem with this I urge them to contact me about it."
Richard Burt, the new Lib Dem candidate for West Worcestershire, said he was "dismayed" at the move.
He said: "I sincerely hope that the employees' MP will actively take up their cause and have written to the managing director of Baxters myself to protect these jobs.
"Whilst I agree that transporting pickled onions from Pershore to Poland is not good for the environment. Baxters should support British jobs by adapting production capacity in Pershore to UK markets."
