Ashford Town 1 Bromsgrove Rovers 1
Southern League Division One West
MIDFIELDER Wayne Dyer's wonder goal earned Bromsgrove Rovers a valuable point, as they held title chasing Ashford Town on Tuesday night.
The game seemed to be slipping away from the visitors when Dyer curled a superb effort past Ashford goalkeeper Paul Burgess in the 90th minute.
The goal was no more than Rovers deserved as they matched a strong Ashford side, which had convincingly defeated Bromsgrove in December.
With strikers Paul Moore and Neil Davis out because of injury and illness manager Rod Brown decided to play Dyer up front. Delton Francis, back from a lengthy injury, and Matthew Barnes-Homer were also on the bench.
Rovers started brightly at Ashford and Dyer had a header saved by Burgess.
Matt Johnson then had a goal disallowed for offside mid-way through the first period.
However, both sides struggled to make a breakthrough, as defences dominated during the first half.
However, Rovers went in 1-0 down at half time after Gavin Smith scored in the 44th minute.
Simon Langley swung in a cross, which Smith prodded towards goal. Tim Clarke reacted smartly to save, but Smith headed the rebound over Rovers' goalkeeper.
Rovers piled on the pressure and Burgess saved Kevin Banner's dangerous free kick.
Dyer though made sure of a point when he picked up the ball on the left and whipped in an unstoppable shot.
