It is a good many months now since attention was drawn to the shocking state of the footpath leading from the Rynal, Evesham, to the Common, and we are very glad to learn at last that the Highways Committee have instructed the Borough Surveyor to take steps to have this footpath put into a passable condition, We suppose it will be an equally tedious business to prevail upon the Committee to insist upon the stiles by the path by the side of the river from the town to Hampton ferry being put in such a condition that elderly people and children can take this delightful walk with real pleasure. In a short time now this path will be very much used, and we trust it will not be long before the present almost unclimbable fences are replaced with proper stiles, or better still with clap gates.

Several matters of the greatest interest to growers were discussed at the annual meeting of the Evesham and District Market Gardeners' and Fruit Growers' Association, held at the Public Hall, Evesham, on Friday evening. The meeting deserved to be better attended, but those members present displayed the keenest interest in the business transacted. George Swift presided. Mr Richard White, hon treasurer, presented the accounts, which showed that the association had received £81 16s in members' subscriptions during the past year, and had a balance in hand of £21. The annual report revealed the past year had not only been one of extreme difficulty for all engaged in the industry, but one which had been totally unremunerative.

Proposals for using the Almonry at Merstow Green as a museum were adopted by Evesham Town Council on Wednesday. At first two rooms will be heated and equipped and this will be done as quickly as possible in the hope that the building may be open to visitors in the spring. A more ambitious scheme for a museum at the Almonry was halted when the Council was unable to get grants towards the cost of extensive alterations and adaptations. The new proposals are the results of discussions with Evesham Historical Society who have offered to help the Council run the museum.

Honeybourne station, which was closed 12 years ago, looks set to reopen to passengers this summer. British Rail plans to reopen the station on the Worcester-Oxford line on a trial basis with local trains calling and will then decide whether to make the experiment a permanent feature. The news has been welcomed by the Cotswold Line Promotion Group which has been campaigning for 18 months with active local support for the station to be restored. "We are surprised and delighted by the news," said the chairman of the CLPG, Mr Oliver Lovell. "However, it is ironic that this should come at a time when we are fighting hard for the retention of the through inter-city trains to London and, indeed, for the very future of the line."
