We understand that the inhabitants of the villages lying south and north of Littleton and Badsey Station are anxious to induce the Great Western Railway Company to start a service of motor "busses" between the Stratton and these villages. On the south side the villages which would be affected are Badsey, Bretforton and Wickhamford, while on the north the Littletons and Cleeve Prior will be served. It is felt that if a convenient service were started for passengers and parcels the company would find it most beneficial, and a considerable feeder of the station. The parish councils are in favour of the scheme and we would strongly advise them to take concerted action, and lay the matter before the directors.

The quality of the cattle and pigs entered for the Evesham Christmas Fat Stock Show at Messrs E. G. Righton & Son's market on Monday was excellent, and well above the average. General market prices were realised at the sale for the 108 beasts, and it was a very profitable proposition for the feeders. Remarkable success was achieved by Mr. R. C. Smith, of Buckland, who won all four cups put up for competition with some champion specimens of the Black Poll breed. Mr. G. F. Bomford was runner-up, his entry of Herefords being greatly admired and sought after. Supplies of sheep were short, but there was a good quantity of excellent bacon, store and pork pigs

New valuation lists prepared by the Board of Inland Revenue were received on Thursday last week at local government offices throughout the country. In every case they show heavy increases in rateable values but rating officers have been emphasising that the total amount of rate fund income required by councils will be about the same as before and that rates generally should be substantially lower. An aggrieved ratepayer cannot appeal against his new assessment until April 1. He will lose nothing by waiting until he receives his rate demand note, which will then show him the effect of the new valuation.

Council house tenants in the Vale of Evesham face rent rises of about £3 a week next year. This will represent an increase of between 25 and 35 per cent, Mr P. G. Rust, chief executive of Wychavon district council, warned housing committee members. He said it was a deliberate policy by the Government to make those who could afford it pay more. It meant that between 60 and 70 per cent of the tenants in Wychavon would be making applications for rent rebates. Mr J. Wrenn said: "These are very high rents and with rates on top of this people will be paying £4 a week increase." He said that councils must make sure that they gave good advice and good service.
