On several occasions now the Matron of the Cottage Hospital, with the assistance and consent of the Committee of Management, has organised outdoor fetes and indoor gatherings for the benefit of the funds, and these have invariably been most successful. Miss Hipkins was disappointed at not being able to arrange a convenient date for an outdoor gathering as so many fetes of a similar nature were announced. It was therefore decided to hold a caf chantant and concert in the Town Hall, and this took place on Wednesday afternoon and evening. The Comtesse de Paris, the Duke and Duchess of Orleans, and the Duke of Guise, of Woodnorton Hall, gave the affair their direct patronage and also sent handsome donations to the funds.

That the splendid work of the Evesham Police Divisional Boot Fund is continuing with increasing success was proved at the annual meeting of the administration of the fund, held at the Evesham Police Station on Monday. Supt. Pass (chairman) presided and the Secretary reported the satisfactory administration of the fund during last winter. Including the balance brought forward from the previous season, the receipts amounted to £338 11s 4d, while the expenses totalled £223 1s 8d. Of the latter, £206 was spent in the purchase of 496 pairs of boots, and £1 14s 9d in special grants. In May last the balance in hand was £115 8s 9d.

Collins Bros (Evesham) Ltd have started a new type of savings club for their customers - the first of its kind in the area - and after the official opening on Tuesday morning by the Mayor of Evesham (Councillor E. A. Andrews) the first member to join was the Mayoress, Mrs Andrews. The new savings scheme differs from the usual Christmas club in that instead of giving her spare change to the shop assistant to put into the firm's club, the housewife can now put a sixpence or a shilling in a newly-installed machine in the shop and obtain a stamp which she can stick on a savings club book issued by the firm. Then, when she feels inclined, she can hand in the book and receive goods to the value of the stamps.

Traders at Evesham are preparing to move into action again if a fresh application is made to convert a redundant sewing shop in Evesham into a leisure centre. Several weeks ago, they vigorously opposed plans by Koin International to move into the sewing shop, at the bottom of Bridge Street, protesting that it would be out of character with a rural market town like Evesham. Evesham town council also came out against it, saying they did not want Evesham to become a "slot machine paradise" and Wychavon district council's planning committee finally turned it down after sending a deputation of councillors to see a similar centre in Cheltenham.
