We are not surprised to learn from the General Manager of the Great Western Railway Company that they do not see their way clear to stop any of the fast trains between Worcester and Paddington at Evesham. As the company point out, the whole advantage of through trains is lost if they once commence stopping to pick up, and Evesham is in no worse a position than many other larger and more important centres. We certainly hope that the company will find it possible to run rail motors to Worcester, so that passengers from Evesham may have a chance of connecting with these through trains.

At a meeting of the Holy Cross Parish Council. Mr. G. E. Critchley said ever since the old bridge at Pershore had been regarded as an ancient monument, it had been used as a dumping ground by the county road authorities, and was a blot on the landscape. The Rev. G. E. Towle said it was a disfigurement of one of the most beautiful spots in the neighbourhood, but upon making an enquiry he had been given to understand that the present use of the environs of the old bridge was only temporary.

Engineers and gangs of men from Evesham MEB were still at work yesterday repairing storm damage after what has been described as their worst night for many years. At the height of the storm, several thousand homes in the district were blacked out and work was still going on yesterday restoring supplies to 210 houses in isolated pockets throughout the area. Mr Bob Armstrong, the Evesham district manager, said: "We have had lightning storms in recent years, but nothing like this."
