THIS time of year brings the usual warnings about the dangers of bathing in canals, quarries and rivers. It's sound advice.
That said, I must say that in my youth, many a happy summer's day was spent floating downstream in an old tractor tyre.
Whenever I catch a whiff of the Severn - fresh water has a unique bouquet - I think of those long lost, carefree days.
