THE Worcestershire Ladies scratch team gained promotion last summer to division five of the Inter County Ladies Scratch League.

Cath Francis, Cathy Harris, Diane Meakin, Ursula Pearson and Chris Urry started this year's campaign with a home win against Kenilworth 3-2. They play Handsworth at home and travel away to Sutton Coldfield and Mickleover.

Success at county events continued for the Worcestershire GC ladies when Brenda Jones captured the Barbara Chamberlain trophy at Burghill Valley Golf Club.

In division one of the May medal, Jenny Simms won and she was followed by Kate Foster and Sandra Schofield

Sally Agnew won division two with Norma Pottinger and Joan Haworth coming second and third respectively.

Jean Coleman won division three, April Wilding was second and Jenny Butler third.

There was a good entry for the Queen Mother's Cup (a national competition) which was won by one of the club's octogenarians Eileen Hunt, who goes forward to play the next round at Monmouth in October.

A trolley ban was lifted just in time for the Open Mixed Greensome on Sunday, May 28, and ground staff were congratulated on the presentation of the course following a week of heavy rain.

The gross prizes went to Ian and Pauline Belsham with 25 Stableford points; Patrick Gamble and Linda Bennett of Ross-on-Wye with 26 and Jamie Dunster and Diane Meakin with 29.

The net prizes went to Robin and Pat Darch 37; Gordon and June Jones 37; James and Pat Rose 39; Andy Greene and April Wilding 39; Michael Lloyd-Court and Belinda Rowe of Redditch 39 and overall winners Robert Daniels and Eleanor Harrison of Burghill Valley with 40 points.
