EVESHAM United face an uphill struggle to avoid relegation from the Southern League Premier Division when they host rock-bottom Chesham United in their last game of the season tomorrow (3pm).

Paul West's side are third from bottom in the table and their Premier Division status depends on Northwood's result -- the Robins must win and hope Northwood lose at Cirencester, who are fifth-from-bottom.

But even then Evesham would face a play-off with the 19th-placed sides from the Northern Premier and the Isthmian Premier, currently Lincoln United and Hendon respectively.

The side with the lowest points-per-game ratio for the season will face the drop. As it stands, Lincoln and Hendon both have 41, whereas Evesham have collected 38.

So West's men must win their last game at Common Road before the ground is sold and hope both rivals lose for a chance of staying up.

When West took over at Evesham, he set a survival target of five wins from the remaining 10 games.

With five of the matches against top-six opposition, the side have done well to pick up three wins so far.

West said: "At the end of the day, we want to finish the season with a win and, if the other results go our way, there is a chance we could stay up but it is pretty much out of our hands now.

"If someone had told me two months ago that we would still have a chance of staying up on the last day of the season, I would have bitten their hand off.

"I am disappointed to be where we are, but I can't fault the lads' endeavour and effort since I took over.

"If things don't work out for us on Saturday, we will still face a difficult time next season as there are some good sides, like Bromsgrove and Sutton Coldfield, in the division below and we will be on a tight budget."

Top scorer Richard Ball is banned and Steve Luckett (ankle) is injured.
