THE latest three results received for the third division of the Brewin Dolphin Malvern Table Tennis League has finally settled the top two positions.

Maulers, by taking seven out of a possible eight points, finished five points ahead of Nomads, who had taken three points from their match.

Nomads and X-Police had a close battle with the lead changing every two sets, and only the last one settling the win for the home team. Half the sets needed a fourth game, and another one went to five. Kevin Howard starred for Nomads with three singles wins and a share in the doubles win with Rob Redden. Adrian Fray won the other two for Nomads. Ralph Cook took two for X-Police and Alan Holmes and Malcolm Dalley one each.

Maulers and X-Police had an even longer match and the score of 9-1 does not do X-Police justice. Six sets were four games long and another two were five long, 741 points were scored in the match and the difference between the two teams was only 61. Ralph Cook was the X-Police player to save the whitewash. Ray Davies and Don James were unbeaten in both singles and doubles and Bill Smith took two for Maulers.

Maulers' final match of the league season, although they are playing in both the Peter Harrold and the handicap finals as indeed are the Nomads, was against Poolbrook Lieutenants.

Alasdair Maxwell-Stewart played extremely well to beat both Bill Smith and Ray Davies and get the point that enabled his team to finish in seventh position in their first season in the league. Don James won all his singles and teamed with Ray for the doubles win.

Results: CSSC Nomads 6, X-Police 4; Poolbrook Lieutenants 2, Manor Park Maulers 8; Manor Park Maulers 9, X-Police 1.
