MALVERN and District Orienteers travelled to Holme Lacy College near Hereford last Saturday for the fourth of their mini-league events.

Blue course giants Jason Howell and Andy Munro actually dead-heated with local hero Chris McSweeney in close pursuit. They may all be looking over their shoulders if Malvern Link man Tom Horton manages to get another two results in, as he benefits from the rule which lets planners and controllers of any event have the benefit of their best score duplicated.

Co-ordinators Lynden and Lester Hartmann were pleased to see MADO recruit Rachel White do so well.

The green course continues to be hotly contested with stalwart helper Neil MacKenzie having a storming run, but Welshman Alan MacKenzie is still top.

Orange course supremo James Wilkinson of Castlemorton did not have it all his own way this time, being beaten by one second by Colwall's Joe Hitchen. But he looks secure at the top of the table, as does the Russell family in the yellow league.

The next event is at Malvern Hills South (off Castlemorton Common) on May 13. Everyone welcome. Full details at www.mado.org.uk or on 01684 577062.
