WHILE other Malvern Joggers slogged it out around London's streets, four members headed to Herefordshire for the Shobdon Six.

It was regular race winners Matt James and Tim Clarke, of Hereford Couriers, that led the 106 finishers round the hilly course through Shobdon Woods. The duo were accompanied by Malvern Joggers' Jon Newey in the opening mile and the three quickly opened up a commanding lead. Newey fell back as the two Hereford runners upped the speed, but by this time the damage had been done and Newey's third place was never threatened.

James outsprinted Clarke to finish in 34.22, with Newey timed at 35.39 and Hereford's Bill Lloyd fourth, a minute behind Newey.

Malvern's Stuart Bellamy (Mercia Fell Runners) was tenth in a time of 37.57, while the Joggers' Mark Cusack was 27th in 41.32 with Neil Williamson two places behind. Fast improving Clare Hill clocked 56.48 for 86th place.
