GARDENING CLUB: On March 15 the club hosted the inter-club quiz. A welcome was given to teams from Bidford, Blockley, Bretforton, Ebrington, Longborough and Mickleton. A special welcome was given to quizmaster Glyn Jones, head gardener at Hidcote Manor.
The questions were divided into seven sections. These included samples of plants, seeds, tubers and corms and slides of well-known gardens for identification. There were also some thought- provoking questions which had the teams and audience gasping in astonishment when they heard the answers. These included questions about the loss of rainforest in the world and the number of tonnes ingested by an earthworm in a year.
The evening proved to be educational as well as fun and all the teams worked hard. The team from Ebrington did exceptionally well and were worthy winners. Team members Dorothy Hart, Rita Jones and Joanna Spark were presented with the winners' shield. Runners-up were the team from Bidford.
Mr Jones was thanked for providing an entertaining evening. A vote of thanks was also given to Mickleton Gardening Club members for their hospitality.
JUMBLE SALE: The sale in King George's Hall raised in excess of £200 going towards the upkeep of the senior playing fields.
BINGO: The session was not well supported but those who were there enjoyed an entertaining evening with June Hutton-Attenborough as caller. The event raised £150 for the Mickleton Play Group.
