HUNDREDS of Wyre Forest schoolchildren will take to the stage for a musical extravaganza on Monday.

The concert will be held at Wyre Forest Glades Arena at 7pm and around 300 pupils from Wolverley High, Wolverley First, St Oswald's, St Barnabas, Cookley Sebright Endowed First, Franche First, Franche Middle and Sion Hill Middle schools will be taking part.

Singers and musicians, aged from five to 18, will be performing a variety of music, including samba and popular hits. There will be a finale with 300 voices and a medley of Beatles songs.

Organiser, Fred Mallinson, music teacher at Wolverley High School, said: "It is going to be a stunning night. It's been a lot of hard work but it really does pay off. The kids get a lot out of it. They are all excited and I am getting quite excited. It is going to be fantastic."

Students have been preparing for the concert since January and a CD has also been produced which will be sale on the night.

Mr Mallinson said: "It will be all of the stuff from the show. It means that people can take a CD home with them - it is a nice memento."
