STOURPORT Ladies put the icing on their Midland Conference League promotion cake by clinching the title with a 3-3 draw with nearest rivals North Notts.

With nothing resting on the result, Saturday's visit to Shrewsbury seconds will now become a celebration party.

Stourport started with some of their best hockey of the season and won a short corner which Fran Moss put away with a clinical finish.

And after conceding an equaliser, Stourport nosed in front again to lead 2-1 at the break with Sarah Cavendish scoring from an acute angle.

They came out very positively in the second-half and a long ball through from Moss found Melissa Kennedy who left the keeper with no chance.

Despite good defending from player-of-the-match Harriet Burns, Stourport sloppily collapsed late on and conceded two goals - but the point was enough to secure the title.

KIDDERMINSTER Hockey Club's West Midlands Premier League's campaign drew to a close with a 4-2 loss at home to Stone.

Though losing the toss, Kidderminster made good inroads into their opponents 25, and a defence-splitting pass from Chris Bartle found Matt Edwards, who put the home side ahead.

Despite fierce defensive work, the visitors drew level, but again Kidderminster gained the initiative as Andy Pocknell finished a neat short-corner.

Continuing to pressure, the visitors again equalised, despite excellent work by goalkeeper Andy Moore.

Stone put the game out of their hosts' reach in the second half with clever use of rolling substitutions, tiring Kidderminster's 11 men.

Already planning next season, manager Phil Williams and coach Simon Palmer will be strengthening the squad, and the team is eager to prepare in the summer for what lies ahead in September.

Chaddesley Corbett's West Midlands Division Two season ended with a 3-2 defeat after they conceded a last-minute penalty.

Jon Ella and Sam Boden scored the goals in the loss which sees Corbett finish eighth out of 12 teams.

Stourport Men's firsts hope to end their season on a high when they host Formby this weekend after an eight-goal thriller with lowly Lichfield last weekend.

Phil Lashford's men ran out 5-3 winners at the Staffordshire strugglers who remain rooted to the bottom of National North Division with just four points.

Although Stourport will not finish the season with promotion they are comfortably in mid-table after Imran Yousaf's hat-trick and strikes from Lashford and Rob Allen in the win over Lichfield.
