AN Evesham policewoman who attempted to save an elderly man's life while on her way to a plane crash has been honoured for her efforts.
Despite giving the man cardiopulmonary resuscitation, PC Sarah Sceats was unsuccessful in her attempts and he subsequently died.
The 39-year-old, who joined the force last May, was called out to a plane crash November 28 last year at Cleeve's Hill overlooking Bishop's Cleeve when she was flagged down by a passer-by while travelling through Winchcombe.
An elderly man had collapsed in the road following a heart attack.
PC Sceats, who lives in Evesham, said: "It was snowing heavily that night. It was around 5pm and there was hardly anyone in their homes that I could call out for assistance. The passer-by led to the elderly man who was at the side of the road."
The officer gave the Winchcombe man CPR in an attempt to save him while the ambulance was on its way.
The former navy officer added: "I could see that if he didn't get medical help he wouldn't stand a chance of surviving.
"I tried my best to save this man.I was very upset. I couldn't believe he had died - then it suddenly hit me."
PC Sceats was presented with the Chief Constable's commendation award last week.
