A WORCESTER motorsport enthusiast claimed fifth place in the World Minibike Supermoto Championships at the Angmering Raceway in West Sussex.

Martin Robbins, from Hylton Road, held pole for a while during Saturday's qualifying, but was overtaken later in the session and started the race fourth on the grid.

On the Sunday race day, Robbins claimed a third place and two fifths in the day's three 12-lap races, which gave him fifth position overall.

The overall winner was a South African rider, who finished ahead of a Spanish competitor, while two Brits filled third and fourth ahead of Robbins.

As well as racing the 125cc minibikes, which are known as pit bikes and can reach speeds of up to 65mph, Robbins also takes part in the British Supermoto Championships on a full size motorbike.

He said: "The minibike season has started with a real bang for me.

"I am lying tenth overall after three rounds of competition.

"I normally compete on the big bikes, but I decided to give the minibike championships a try.

"My sponsor, TM Quads of Worcester, provided me with one of the bikes."
