Evesham Ladies 2, Old Silhillians II 0
EVESHAM have secured promotion to Division One of the Worcestershire League with two matches still to play.
Last Saturday's hosts started positively and piled on the pressure as a near full strength squad adhered to coach Lis Sterling's pre-match talk.
Good work down the right from player of the match Kate Fletcher and Vanessa Dufty saw them outwit their opponents and give themselves an early short corner that went to waste.
Rhian Fuge, although not fully match fit, distributed the ball well in midfield, while the defence of Sam Witheford, Helen Kennedy and Emma Scott were rarely tested leaving goalkeeper Charmaine Mitchell with little to do.
It was from a shot outside the D from Fuge that saw Karen Robinson find the goal with the sweetest of touches to give her team a well-deserved lead.
The scorer and Tash Kuiper controlled the midfield with good linking play down the left flank from Alice Cook.
Evesham could have doubled their lead on several occasions but were denied by the outstanding Old Sils stopper.
However, following a 16-yard hit out, Evesham produced their best move of the game with Fuge and Fletcher working well to put the ball into the D were Dufty made it 2-0.
The second half saw Evesham step off the pedal and allow the visitors into the game but they were unable to convert their shots and find the net from open play as the winners showed why they have only conceded seven goals this season.
The new champions visit Stourport on Saturday for an 11.30am pushback.
Last week's match ball was sponsored by Party Dazzlers.
