Bretforton II 4,
Colwall 5
BRETFORTON'S final league match of the season saw them play host to the Severn League Divi-sion One champions in what proved a hard-fou-ght battle played in a lively and frolicking atm-osphere.
Colwall struck early and it took the home side a little time to respond but Lisa Workman's pass found Sarah Bragg in space and a first-time shot found the net.
Sophie Corbett and Wor-kman combined well up the middle but, towards the end of the first half, Col-wall regained the lead when Bretforton players were distracted by an injury to Jane Wheeler and loose marking left Fiona Lovecy exposed again.
It was end to end action in the second half with Bernie Amphlett fighting hard for possession and using space well on the left wing to create movement up the pitch.
Corbett equalised with a fine strike and Bretforton then went 3-2 up when Bragg bagged her second following a good cross from hard-working right winger Kim Barry.
Celebrations were shortlived as Colwall hit back twice to take a 4-3 lead. Wheeler equalised after a good run up the pitch that ended with a magnificent high strike but it was Colwall who had the final say to bring a nine-goal thriller to an end.
Sue Shephard was named player of the match for her contribution to Bretfor-ton's goals.
Thanks are due to referee Bridget Chapman and the coaching team for all their hard work and dedication this season. The match ball was sponsored by Badsey Spar.
Bretforton host the annual Junior Tournament at Eve-sham High School on Sun-day starting at 10.30am. All are welcome.
