Bromsgrove men's 1st XI 4 Bloxwich men's 1st XI 3

BROMSGROVE ended the season with a victory in the Coaching Solutions West Midlands Division One to seal joint third place, after holding off spirited Bloxwich on Saturday.

The Boars finished level of points with Old Wulfrunians and end a promising season on a high.

Despite a top three finish, Bromsgrove's highest for several years, club captain Matthew Russell lamented dropped points which denied them promotion.

He said: "It's been a good season. Finishing joint third and playing the way we have at times has been excellent.

"But we can't help think about the points we missed as well.

"The draw with Redditch and the loss to Market Drayton were where we slipped up.

"If we had won those games then we would have been going up."

Bromsgrove went into its final fixture needing to beat Bloxwich comprehensively and for West Bromwich and Old Wulfrunians to slip up to finish in the second promotion spot.

The Boars started impressively and strikes by Mark Robinson (2), Nick Frizzell and top scorer Pete Hall had put Bromsgrove 4-1 up.

However, in the final minutes Bloxwich rallied with two late goals and forced Bromsgrove to hold onto victory.

Russell said: "It was hard at the end as Bloxwich really went for it."

In the end results did not go Bromsgrove's way. Old Wulfrunians lost 8-6 to champions Whitchurch but West Bromwich defeated Leamington 4-2.

Bromsgrove fourths team ended the season on a low note as they suffered a 9-0 defeat at the hands of Droitwich on Saturday.

Droitwich's men's first team ended the West Midlands Premier Division by losing 5-1 to Finchfield on Saturday.

Andy Harris grabbed Spa's only goal of the game. Droitwich ended the campaign bottom of the table with just four points and no wins. They were also relegated back to West Midlands Division One for next season.
