BROMSGROVE CC wants volunteers to help make sure St Godwalds is ready to go for the start of the season in the Birmingham and District Division One.

The club has signed up to the English and Wales Cricket Board's (ECB) scheme, Cricketforce, for the second season in a row.

The nationwide scheme encourages local people to descend upon their nearest cricket ground and help fix it up in time for the new cricket season in May.

This time the scheme falls on April 8 and 9. Chairman Nick Husbands is hoping that the club can build on the success of 2005.

Last year dozens of residents, and Worcestershire legend Graeme Hick, leant time and resources to put down a new patio surface, erect a fence and overhaul the changing rooms and women's toilets.

Husbands said: "Last year was unbelievable, we had over £12,000 of donated materials and labour.

"The weekend went really well with loads of people helping throughout the whole weekend.

" This year our projects aren't quite as ambitious, but we do have a couple of special projects lined up.

"I would like to encourage anybody who is community spirited to turn up and help."

Work starts at 9am on Saturday, April 8 and the following day. Bromsgrove are also holding a junior recruitment drive on April 8 and 9. Boys and girls aged between seven and 16-years-old are welcome to register.

The Junior Boars will be continuing from Wednesday, April 26, for children aged between seven and 11-years-old, while the 12 to 16-year-olds will practice on Fridays at St Godwalds.
