ARTISTS are flocking to take part in this year's Worcester Festival in a bid to once again bring it alive with the sounds of salsa, brass and jazz.
The Worcester Festival is gearing up for another stunning line-up of events, from Saturday, August 12, to Monday, August 28.
Organisers Huntingdon Arts set up an open meeting in the city earlier this month for anyone interested in holding an event to come along and find out more.
More than 50 people turned up and the organisers have now revealed that nearly 180 acts have already signed up, with more to follow shortly.
New attractions for this year will include an eagle and vulture display on College Green, with old favourites such as the beer festival, riverside fireworks display and wealth of arts workshops set for a welcome return.
Last year's festival attracted more than 100,000 visitors to 290 events, including everything from large scale professional concerts at Huntingdon Hall, the Swan Theatre and the Cathedral, to smaller local events aimed at communities and children.
Chris Jaeger, director of Worcester Festival, said: "We're delighted with how it's progressing. It's shaping up to be another stunning festival with a fantastic line-up."
Building on the success of last year's festival, there will be another salsa evening at Huntingdon Hall, more films at the Swan Theatre, children's dance and drama workshops and the CrownGate Live Stage.
Highlights include Steven Berkoff's exploration of Shakepeare's Villains, A Feast of Gilbert and Sullivan featuring the former stars of the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company and tribute band Complete Madness.
